With a better appreciation for the qualities of quantities, people might be able to set aside, if only temporarily, the (i)____ of a human brain that evolved to focus on the peccadilloes of a small, homogeneous tribe, rather than on the (ii)_____ population densities and polycultural vortices that characterize life in contemporary cities. The overall passages gives the sense that the author is explaining the humans' punctiliousness of finding limitations in the small tribes while not giving due attention to the nature of existentialism in contemporary cities.
1. Third blank is easy to fill. Anomalous will not fit here as it will not go along with "common" and disturbing is not the idea as well - there is no reason to attribute negative tone to this blank. Hence, "expected" fits very well here.
2. The first blank is preceded by the word "if only temporarily" hinting that the first blank should be opposite of that. While evanescence is completely out of the picture, cantankerous is too negative compared to stubborn. Hence, stubborn works out here.
3. Second bank becomes easy to fill. Negligible (~0), Nebulous (somewhere in between - vague) and daunting are in different places in terms of scale. Daunting fits here the most.
