Is the piece about the internal distance in there to try to confuse the test taker? Ignoring that, it seems like a pretty straightforward question
The formula of a regular hexagon can be found using: (3sqrt(3))/(2) * s^2 where s is a side of the hexagon.
Given information tells us that the perfect hexagon has a side 8. Plug that into the formula above --
>>> (3 sqrt(3))/(2) * 64
>>> (192 sqrt(3))/(2)
>>> 96 sqrt (3)
Answer is D.
