If Jeff buys x stamps at $0.10 apiece, then the money spent on these stamps = (0.1)(x)
If Jeff buys x+1 stamps at $0.25 apiece, then the money spent on these stamps = (0.25)(x+1)
So, we can write: (0.1)(x) + (0.25)(x+1) = 1.65
Expand to get: 0.1x + 0.25x + 0.25 = 1.65
Simplify: 0.35x = 1.40
x = 1.40/0.35
x = 4
So, we have:

We get the value of the package $1.65 which consist of a X stamps worth $0.10 each and X+1 stamps worth $0.25 each.
so, 0.1x+0.25(x+1)=1.65 -----> 0.35x+0.25=1.65
x=4
