I am not an expert but would like to highlight few points
"famous" is a trap
famous implies little more than the fact of being, sometimes briefly, widely and popularly known. a famous actress renowned implies more glory and acclamation.
notorious frequently adds an implication of questionableness or evil. It also adds to public attention.
In the second part "George Byron who is also a
Romantic paradox, and some say a
revolutionist poet" - so this a clue
and notorious fits the place along with newflanged
