One animal is to be selected from a group of 60 animals. The probability that the selected animal will be a cat is 0.35, and the probability that the selected animal will be a female cat is 0.2.

Step 1: understanding the question
Total animals are 60 and probability or chance of selecting a cat is 0.35 or 35%. That means 35% of the animals are cats, hence cats are 0.35*60 = 21
Also, probability or chance of selecting a female cat is 0.2 or 20%. That means 20% of the animals are female cats, hence female cats are 0.2*60 = 12

Quote:
Quantity A The number of male cats in the group

Step 2: Calculating number of male cats
Total cats = 21
Female cats = 12
Male cats = 9

Hence, Quantity B is greater

B is correct

Shouldn’t it be 20% of the selected animals i.e, 20% of 21 animals that are selected?
So it will be equal to 4.2=4 and hence Quantity A is greater?

1
probability that selected animal is cat =0.35
so no of cats in group is = 60*0.35 = 21
no of female cats in group is = 60 * .20=12
no of male cats is = 21-12=9 (less than quantity B that is 10)
the answer is B
