Dear forum members,
This is my first post, so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not, then I apologise.
I am trying to figure out the best way to approach this problem:
At a graduation, guests sit in rows such that there are p people in the first row, p+1 people sit in the second row, p+2 in the third row, and so on. How many more people sit in row n than in the second row?
I have no idea how to approach this. In my mind, the reasoning should go something like this: n (the total amount of people sitting in row n) - (p+1) (the amount of people who are sitting in row 2). So n - (p+1) should give the difference between the amount of people sitting in row n and in row 2. Unfortunately, that's not any of the answer choices. The choices are as follows:
A. n+2
B. n+1
C. n
D. n-1
E. n-2
How would you approach this problem?
