Issue:
Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing
fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree
with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the
most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
I would like to rephrase the claim as Educational institutions have got more responsibility
to track every student and strive to bring the best from them through rightly identifying their
area of interest and to facilitate their learning process so that they excel in their area
of interest and thereby increase the likelihood of their success.
Every student is unique and they have their own passion and interest. It is the role of the teacher or
mentor or the coach who represent the institution to find the talent of each student and to help
them in honing their skills. The rise of Sachin Tendulkar as front runner fulfilling dreams of
billion cricket fans in India would not have materialized had there been no coach like Achrekar.
It was his coach who rightly found his passion for cricket at a young age and drove him in that direction
deviating from the quotidian approach of many teachers. The vision of that coach shaped his career he
went on to become one of the finest cricketers in the sporting history.
It would be a chimera to expect the same coaches or teachers all over the world. There are
schools in rural areas where even basic infrastructure is lagging well behind the urban schools. Here comes
the responsibility of the government to produce basic infrastructure to provide an environment
inviting to the rural students who otherwise dictated by poverty are reluctant to get enrolled. The responsibility
of educational institution grows multitude in these areas as they have to bring in students and wait till
they get some basic education. After they have the basics they can move on to find the area which is of
more interest to these students.
One may argue if the focus is only on the area of interest then the students may miss
the luxury of learning many subjects. This may lead to en environment where the student turns
out be a jack of all trades and master of none getting lost in the process and may not
turn out to successful as he has to spend time on the fields where he may not be that interested.
Thus it would be prudent to conclude that while every educational institution has got the responsibility
to find the right area where his student is passionate about ,it has to follow an adaptive approach
taking the short coming of students coming from rural area in to consideration as well thereby every
students get the same motivation to emerge successful.
