Thank for pointing out. I will update the table accordingly.

And yes you are right. On the website there is no trace anymore of the PBT

I will investigate

Many thanks

Hi, I see that you have updated the timings, but it still does not seem to be accurate - the verbal and quant have exactly 5 minutes more than the IBT equivalents (that is, 35 and 40 minutes respectively).

So, suppose the student

  • in the first section nails just 6 questions correct

He/She will end up to get an easy verbal section as the second portion of the test

What is the first section here? A Quant or verbal?
By second portion you mean the 2nd section?

I'm a little confused.

So, if I get a quant section first and I do good in that, will the next section (verbal) will adapt to be harder OR the next quant section will adapt (meaning the quant will only affect quant and verbal performance only affects verbal) ???

Hi There!

Let me try to help you with this.

1. You cannot be certain which section you'll get first
2. GRE Test is divided into two halfs AWA-V/Q-V/Q and a break and then V/Q-Q/V-V/Q
3. So just in case you get quants first, and if you do good in that your next quant section (after the break) will be dependent on the first section. Similarly for verbal the second half will be dependant on the first section.

Hope this helps!

2) In the second section (both quant and verbal) IF your correct answers in the first section were in that range 0-6 correct upon 20 questions the second section will be easy level.

Alike, if in the first section your correct answers were from 7-14 range, then your second section will be medium level.

More, if in the first section you pick 15-20 range questions correct, then your second section of the test will be HARD Level.

Hi All, new to the forum and thanks for sharing all the info. Just wanted to confirm how accurate are the ranges given, do they ever deviate for person to person.

Apologies if I'm not making much sense.

Thanks,

No the ranges are accurate.

If you nail the first range in the first section then you do have the according range in the next section of the test. The are fixed values. No change from person to person because the test is not CAT on question-based but on SECTION based

The range above are from ETS

The math calculus of the score and which section you will pick as the second we infer from the empirical observation.

Scanning several official reports, the scores and which section we do have as second, overlap perfectly with the calculation above.

what we do not know for sure is the bonus points ETS gives to the students if they have a medium or hard section. I say the bonus points are 3 and they are two, It also depends on the medium-hard question you answer correctly INSIDE the section.

A bit complicated process but the result is there
