Another approach:
The ratio of males to females at an event is 5 to 3
NOTE: the number of males and females must be INTEGERS
So, there could be 5 males and 3 females (for a total of
8 people)
Or there could be 10 males and 6 females (for a total of
16 people)
Or there could be 15 males and 9 females (for a total of
24 people)
etc...
Notice that the
total number of people is always a
multiple of 8Check the answer choices... only one answer choice (A) is a multiple of 8, so A must be the correct answer.
