This is too easy to be a GRE question. Anyways, try to practice some mental math:
Increase by 50% --> add half the original number = 800 + 400 = 1200
Then decrease by 30% --> First, get 10% of 1200, which is 120, then multiply by 3 to get 30%. This is equal 360. Then 1200-360 = 840.
The answer is A.
