The expression of genes is dependent on the social context. So, if a docile species is mingled with a more aggressive group of species, then they are more likely to become "highly combative". Cartwright has gone further than what is already _______, this blank should be something similar to established; only well-known fits as "far afield" would mean the opposite and under investigation has no context. If Cartwright has gone further than what is already well-known, then he effected a change not even thought to be "possible".
