Let's take the price of sugar = 100/kg
Total consumption was 10 kg so total expenditure = 100 * 10 = 1000/-
Price increased by 32% = 132/kg
A family reduces its consumption so that the expenditure of the sugar is up by 10% only.
Hence the expenditure will be 1000 * 1.10 = 1100/-
Let's take the reduced consumption of sugar is \(x\)
\(x\) = \(\frac{Total expenditure}{rate per kg}\) = \(\frac{1100}{132}\) = 8.33 kg
