ALWAYS scan the answer choices before performing any calculations. In this case, most of the answer choices are spread out nicely, so I might get a little aggressive with my ESTIMATION.
A certain firm produced 82 percent of its computers using parts made by its subsidiary company
So, about 4/5 of the computers used parts from subsidiary company
This leaves 1/5 of the computers REMAINING
...the REMAINING 10,800 computers were produced using parts purchased from another parts manufacturer
Ah! So, 10,800 represents the REMAINING 1/5 of the computers.
...how many computers were produced by the computer manufacturing firm altogether?
10,800 represents 1/5 of the computers, the TOTAL number of computers ≈ (10,800)(5) ≈ (11,000)(5) ≈ 55,000
When we check the answer choices, we see that D is the ONLY answer that's close to 55,000

assume :
The total all computer is x
producing computer sing parts made by its subsidiary company in the last year is y ( and y= (82/100)*x)
the remaining computer = 10800
then :
x= y+10800
=(82/100)*x+10800
x-(82/100)*x=10800
(18/100)x=10800
x=1080000/18
x= 60000
the choice is D
assume :
The total all computer is x
producing computer sing parts made by its subsidiary company in the last year is y ( and y= (82/100)*x)
the remaining computer = 10800
then :
x= y+10800
=(82/100)*x+10800
x-(82/100)*x=10800
(18/100)x=10800
