I have a hard time believing that the first section on the GRE is already experimental.

See my guide all you need to know about the exam https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/all-you-d ... tml#p14202

The experimental section is always after the break.

Also see how the score is calculated https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/how-is-th ... 19936.html

Forget that grid with all respect and in my humble opinion.

what count are the numbers. they are king..........because when you score medium or easy you have a penalty by ETS. Please refer to my link above how the score is calculated

a friend of mine has tested 9 times. He was having quantitative experimental section at all times..
It was supposed to be random, although it would be hard to believe into the consecutive administrations of the same same part of test (quantitative section) with one individual.
Also, I remember having two stupid data set questions, not comparable with the first four questions in their difficulty, even if the order of questions is shuffled. There were questions asking > 2 minutes of solution time in my first quantitative section. Also, there were probabilities with the integer sets (hard ones), and I had to count integers within those sets to find the number of favorable events for answering the question. I am confident my performance in all sections was about the same.

Yes this is also true.

However, because you do not know what is the experimental section.....could be also possible it is not experimental at all and indeed is a normal section that counts for your final score.

My opinion is regardless of what ETS says the experimental section never comes immediately before your eyes ASAP the exam kicks off.

The best I can do to resolve this dilemma is to see my test diagnostic report re #correct vs #incorrect in each scored section.

I am grateful to this website and its founders. I was able to raise my verbal section's score by 4 points by following advices posted by experts here. I did that within a three-week period prior to my actual test date.

I thank GREG MAT for his advice to begin reading :) In one of his posts, GREG has suggested to read https://www.amazon.com/Demon-Haunted-Wo ... 0345409469. I did that, but could read only one chaper due to the shortage of time I could spare for reading. Next, I was reviewing 330 words from this website https://gre.economist.com/gre-advice/gr ... difficulty and used available quizlet flashcards. I did not really prepare very hard for GRE verbal section, besides reading a few pages of the above suggested book, trying to remember a couple of hundred words. Also, I have completed two verbal sections from Greprepclub tests, and thanks goes to our experts, in particular to Carcass.

Even though, I have not been lucky with an experimental quantitative section during my GRE test, I feel satisfied with my time spent here by solving several questions, reviewing exam topics and reading other's posts.

Thank you ALL!

Today after repeat exam, I raised my GRE score in the quantitative section to 163, but my verbal section's score went utterly down. During today's exam, I had a verbal experimental section :(

Done with the test, sections of GRE followed the order Q-V-Q-V-Q.
I have been struggling in the first quantiative section, the other two were easy ...
My old score from 2018 August is Q 159, V 152, AWA 3.5.

Hi There!

Congratulations on your improved score!

P.s.: I think you wrote Q twice instead of V 150

mnaveed, time management is one key factor that singles out high scorer in the quantitative section of GRE. I have wasted my time in the second quantitative section towards its middle part, and scored only 163. If your fundamentals are solid, the second quantitative section will be tough. Time must be watched constantly. Verbal section requires a high concentration, and I gave up on this for my exam today.

thanks for your kind response. What is your best recommended book for quant preparation? For my scholarship, mine main target is to get minimum 160 in quant (verbal does not affect a lot). i have studied and practice from ets and manhattan prep books (5 lb). although i got 158 score in quant section of powerprep practice test 1 and 2, but this score is not as per my target. therefore, i am worried about how to improve it in the remaining 8 days.

try doing paper based (ETS) tests using timer for each section
sleep well during the week before exam, otherwise you will sleep through your GRE test time
