The labelling on the y-axis makes this easy. Scanning should also be restricted to the years that are listed in the answer choices. It would be inefficient to scan all the years, when they are not all eligible answer choices. Scanning the five years, and doing simple additions of the values in a given year for wheat and fruit, and then comparing them to the corresponding value for rice exports, will soon show 2002 as the correct answer.

Alternative approach - For each year - Visually the distance of any of the plots closer to the x asis - needs to be the same as the distance of the 2nd plot to the rice line
