If you've been to Germany, then there are two options:
1. You've been to Germany and been to France.
2. You've been to Germany but not been to France.
We want to know how many are in that second group of having been to Germany and not France.
122 total have been to Germany. Of these 122, 38 have also been to France. This leaves 122 – 38 = 84 who have been to Germany and not been to France.
84 out of the 200 total travelers surveyed is \(\frac{84}{200} = 0.42 =\) 42%.
1. You've been to Germany and been to France.
2. You've been to Germany but not been to France.
We want to know how many are in that second group of having been to Germany and not France.
122 total have been to Germany. Of these 122, 38 have also been to France. This leaves 122 – 38 = 84 who have been to Germany and not been to France.

The easiest thing to do here is to draw a Venn diagram.
We are given a crossover value of 38.
We are given the gross total for France of 71, which, minus the crossover, is 71 - 38 = 33 people who went to France ONLY.
We are given the gross total for Germany of 122, which, minus the crossover, is 122 - 38 = 84 people who went to Germany ONLY (that is, "Germany but NOT France.") This is the number we want.
Answer C.
