Addition and Multiplication rules: (O= odd ; E = even)
E*E = E
E*O = E
O*O = O
E+E = E
E+O = O
O+O = E
We know y is odd. Which MUST give even.
1 and 2: eliminated as we are adding an even number to an odd, hence the result is odd.
3: E*O - O, will give us an even number - an odd ==> odd
4: O*O ==> eliminated
5: O*O + 1 = O + O ==> even
==> E
