Re: A piece of string 35 cm long is cut into three smaller piec [#permalink]

the 3 values satisfies the question....and there are no other values because of linearity of the problem, so answer is C

The wording is a bit tricky. The answer given implies that each piece is of a different length. So medium length cannot equal long length, making the length of medium and long pieces 15 not possible.

But if different lengths are not an issue for medium and long, then the answer would be D, since long = 18, medium = 11, and small = 6, which is a different answer.

In my mind since there's a long, medium, and small piece, this implies that the medium length is a length in between long and small and not equal.

i.e. I have three trucks, one large, one medium, one small. If they were size 100, 100, and 20, one might argue that there is no medium size.

I came up with sizes 5-15-15 and 6-11-18.
But since the problem did not state different sizes... I was puzzled with the idea of medium... anyway.
