First, we have to convert them into equivalent ratios by multiplying 4:7 with 5 and 5:9 with 7 to get 20:35 and 35:63.
The total number of boats in the lake should be a multiple of the sum of their ratios. Sum of the equivalent ratios is 118
118 X 5 = 590, therefore, Option D is the right answer.

Total sum = 118k.
Now from the options we can see that hundreds digit is 5 so we take k = 5 and we get 118*5 = 590
