People who make decisions based on emotion and justify those decisions with logic afterward are poor decision-makers.
The argument claims that poor decision markers are people who make decisions based on emotions and justify those emotions with logic afterwards. It is a compelling argument since people who base their decisions on emotions usually fail to assess several scenarios before making the final decision. However, several questions should be addressed before making a final decision that poor decision makers usually act based on emotions, and employ logic afterward. Since individual judgment is subjective, I cannot completely agree with the argument that poor decision makers usually base their decisions on emotions and then logic.
First of all, majority of famous artists, painters, and sculptors, created world-famous pieces of art based on emotions and not logical analysis. To illustrate, Pushkin wrote the most famous poems when he fell in love with women during his artistic life. Chopen created breathtaking musical compositions when he had romantic relationships with women in Paris. These examples demonstrate that emotions and not logical analysis were the driving force for the world-famous artists to make the greatest decisions during their career.
Secondly, making decision based on the logic does not necessarily guarantee the best outcome. In most of the cases, it was noted that management who makes decisions based on the logic tend to focus more on the profitability of the company rather than well-being of its employees. Management who adopts this strategy usually act based on the assessment of each scenario, and make decisions based on the dollar value of each outcome even though these decisions may not bring positive value in the long term. For this, we can see, that being forced to dissect an argument and assess an opposing view indeed helps to assess the validity of the original argument.
However, the following modification would make the argument much more complete. For example, it should be noted that logical assessment of each scenario will allow individuals to critically analyze information, employ their previous experiences , leading them to make the most advantageous decisions for themselves. For this, we can see that completeness of the argument can be determined by analyzing oppositing views.
To conclude, the argument is not convincing for the above mentioned reasons.
