"Over the past two years, the number of shoppers in Central Plaza has been steadily decreasing while the popularity of skateboarding has increased dramatically. Many Central Plaza store owners believe that the decrease in their business is due to the number of skateboard users in the plaza. There has also been a dramatic increase in the amount of litter and vandalism throughout the plaza. Thus, we recommend that the city prohibit skateboarding in Central Plaza. If skateboarding is prohibited here, we predict that business in Central Plaza will return to its previously high levels."
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.
The main point of the argument is that due to the increase of skateboarders the shop owner’s business has been decreased and the shop owners want to prohibit skateboarders by authority.
First, we have to find an answer of this argument that the shop owners are claiming that skateboarders are responsible for litter and vandalism. Do they have strong evidence behind it? Or they are just claiming it by only assumptions?
If they are just assuming then it’s a serious mistake. Only assumption can’t be a strong reason for prohibiting skateboarding.
Another point is also arising is that why shoppers are decreasing? And if they don’t shop from central plaza then where do they shop from? Do the skateboarders really irritate them and main obstacle for their shopping? Authority should check it prudently before prohibiting skateboarding.
Another thing is that if skateboarders are increasing in that area then why don’t the shop owners try to sell skateboard utilities? Skateboarders must need to repair or to buy utilities and as they are skateboarding near central plaza, then obviously, they want to buy it from the nearest shops. Only a few people want to go miles away to buy their utilities.
Also, do the owners of the shops talk to the skateboarders about their problem? If the owners tell their problems to them their might be a mutual solution like, skateboarders will skate at a specific time so that, shoppers will not feel irritate because of them.
Before going hard way, the authority must utilize other options to solve this problem because both have rights to do what they want.
