We must reduce overhead here at the café. Instead of opening at 6 a.m. weekdays,
we will now open at 8 a.m. On weekends, we will only be open from 9 a.m. until
4 p.m. The decrease in hours of operations will help save money because we
won’t be paying for utilities, employee wages, or other operating costs during the
hours we are closed. This is the best strategy for us to save money and remain in
business without having to eliminate jobs.”
In the memorandum written by owner of the Juniper cafe, a small coffe shop in the downtown area of american city the owner recomends various strategies in order to save money and remain in business without elimating jobs. Close scrutiny to each of these eidence revels that none of them lends credible support to the onwner recommendation.
The owner recommneds that the overhead of the café can only be reduced. It recomends opening of café at 6 am instead of 8 am on weekdays. Opening of café in weekdays at 9 am instead of 8 am may lead to loss of significnat customers who prefer breakfast before 9 am. Since many of the people prefer to take breakfast or coffee at early hours before leaving for office. This idea lacks significant evidence regarding the office hours of the people in the downtown which may make the argument more convicing.
Further the owner recommends opening of café at 9 am until 4 pm in weekends. Opening cafe late in weekends may also result in significnt loss of customers as many of the people prefer to wake early in weekends for walks and to take coffee afterwards. Closing in the early hours might result in the saving money but may incur for other significant looses which might can throw the café outside the business.
Third, the owner speaks of saving the money on utilituies, employment wages and operating cost by closing the café. Thiis seems to be false in many aspects. This may result to loose the employment the owner cites of as many of the people might be geeting higher wages for working early hours in the other areas of the café and may deny working in the Juniper café.
Concluding, the owner may cite other substantialevidence in order to make the argument more compelling. Information such as office hours, current overhead against earning of the café might make an argunment more convincing. As information regarding current overhead play a sigificant role in decision making as there is always minimum overhead of the business againsts its earning . It may be posilble that the overhead is already to a minimum value and certain other factors must be taken care of to reduce the overall money in operating the business.
