topic:Many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system because moral
behavior cannot be legislated.
We have been living in era where we have a set of laws for everything we do. But in all this order that’s being imposed there’s a certain chaos that can’t be kept in check with these laws .It’s not the inefficiency of the laws or the legal system but it’s the outlook of the people themselves that renders it inefficient.
I would support this opinion of mine with certain examples, so for the last decade the leaders of every major country is working together in keeping in check the rapid deterioration of our climate. Various committees have been formed which are passing laws and regulations to reverse the effects of global warming. But the result of such actions is next to zero, there are various reasons for that, one of them being the lack of awareness among the general population regarding the potential threat they are facing as a result of which they resort to a ‘’don’t care ’’attitude whenever such norms and regulations are imposed on them.
The next example would be my city of Mumbai, so these last few years the city of Mumbai has seen upward scale of development in every field possible, but this development is all restricted to only a small part of this huge city. A major part of this city lacks the basic necessities of life. So few years back, the BMC of the city banned open defecation and set-up various eco-toilets for the same. A highly publicized decision backed by many influential people however failed in a year itself, the major reason cited by those flouting the rule being, ’what’s the difference in defecating out in the open and in an enclosed toilet’. So you see ,it’s the citizen themselves that are hampering the process of development. Accustomed for years to a certain state of life, they are reluctant to adopt change which in certain way can benefit them.
Lastly I would like to conclude by saying though some would argue that the strictness of these laws can solve most of these problems, to them I would say that human nature doesn’t function that way. When something is imposed on to humans which he/she can’t understand , there’s a certain hostility created which in the long run backfires rendering all the progress achieved null.
