Are we to select only one word or two? 'Meager' seems odd - it wouldn't give details on how the surface of Mars is discernible; while rarefied is closer in terms of its connotations in translucency.

You must pick two answer choices where is indicated.

The two words are synonyms, therefore they are correct.

Meager means Deficient in amount,or scanty or paltry. I cant understand how Meager is synonymous to "rarefied'!!

Meager also means: poorly or lacking. Indeed, similar to rarefied.

Hope now is clear.

Carcass, can you please explain how we should translate rarefied and meager in the context of this sentence?

basically rarified in the context means that you can see through the atmosphere or clouds of the planet.

It means scarce or not so cloudy. So mars has this feature we can see the planet's surface from our planet

let me know if still is unclear sir
