Answer this question quickly by using the probability approach.

The P(matched pair) is the sum of two mutually exclusive events - picking a pair of doves or picking a pair of rabbits.
P(matched pair) = P(matched doves) + P(matched rabbits)

P(matched doves) and P(matched rabbits) are the products of two independent selections from the hat.

P(matched pair) = (3/5)*(2/4) + (2/5)*(1/4) = (2/5)

Re: A magician has five animals in his magic hat: 3 doves and 2 [#permalink]
total ways to select 2 animals from 5 animals is =5c2=10 ways

total no of matched pairs will be =4(3 of doves and 1 of rabbits )

so probability of selecting matched pair=(4/10)=2/5

answer will be A
