Tricky!!
The author of this question wants us to think that the line through the triangle is perpendicular to the base.
However, this would be an unwarranted conclusion, since we're not told that it's perpendicular (although it certainly looks perpendicular
)If it were perpendicular, then x and y would be equal.
However, it's also possible that the line is NOT perpendicular in which case, x and y are NOT equal
