two machines work at a constant rate to produce bottles . machine A produces in 2/5 of an hour . machine B produces y bottles in 3/5 of an hour . which of the following combinations of machines can produce atleast 5y bottles in 2 hours.
Indicate all such statements
1. Machine A alone.
II. Machine B alone.
III. Both machines A and B
How to solve this problem. ?
You don't really need to solve this question because there are only three feasible combinations mentioned.
Machine A produces a bottle in \(\frac{2}{5}\) hours. So in 2 hours it will 2 / \(\frac{2}{5}\) = 5. I chose machine A first because it is faster of the two machines.
Hence to make more than 5 bottles you need more than Machine A so III is the only possible option.
The key words to focus on in this problem is "more than 5 bottles"
