The area of a rectangle is equal to the length times the width. So the area of rectangle A is 12*5 = 60 and the area of rectangle B is 9*10 = 90.

By what number to we have to multiply 60 by to get 90? Using algebra:

60x = 90

Divide both sides by 60:

x = 90/60 = 1.5

And indeed, when we multiply 60 by 1.5, we get 90.
