Claim: In any field — business, politics, education, government — those in power should step down after five years.
Reason: The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
There is a proverb that said ‘Rome was not built in a day.’ For a long and prosperous development there should be a long reign leader more than five years otherwise developments would be halted.
It’s not a doubt that because of Winston Churchill Britain won the world war II. Now if the people of Britain couldn’t keep their trust on him and revitalize him with another one would the Great Britain could win the war? Probably no.
It is said that the surest path to success for any enterprise to revitalize new leadership. But how it will work? By only changing the leadership can’t cause the success. Apple took down Steve jobs from his position to revitalize the leadership. Did apple gain any success during that time? As far as we know they didn’t. They were at the corner point of failure of the company.
Just revitalizing its chairperson or the leader don’t change the system. It’s mostly reflected that that company or that government don’t trust on their leader. When a leader realizes that nobody trusts him and he will be replaced within five years how can he focus on his long-term policy. That person then might be corrupt because he knows that after five years he will be no longer in that position. Instead of thinking about the government or the institution he will only think about his profit.
Actually, it’s all about trust. If we can’t trust the leader and always thinking about replacing him with someone else how can we expect something good from him. Malaysian leader Dr. Mahathir was a long-term leader in his country. He was behind the success of his country. If he couldn’t reign, his government for long time, how could he success?
Of course, there is a doubt that absolute power leads to absolute corruption and absolute corruption corrupt absolutely. Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe destroyed his countries’ economy by corruption. But if there is a good governance system and good democracy that can’t be happening.
For long term development there should be a long-term leader and also there should be patience and confidence in the leader for his long-term success.
