We know that set A & set B contain some elements; which need to check from the options that which of them is independently sufficient to find the minimum value of the range of the set containing the elements of both the sets A & B
The minimum possible range of the set formed by combining the set A & set B can be found if the elements of the sets are known or if the range of the both the sets is know.
Now, checking from the options, we get .
(A) the elements of set A — is insufficient as we need to know the elements of set B as well
(B) the elements of set B — is insufficient as the elements of set A are not known
(C) the values of the range of the set A & the range of set B — is sufficient to comment on the range of the combined set
(D) the values of the highest & the lowest elements in each of the set A & set B — is sufficient as if the lowest & the highest values are known, we cannot comment on the lowest & the highest possible values of the combined set.
Hence only statement (C) & (D) are independently sufficient .to find the range of the set combining set A & set B, so are correct.
