The Median of an even set of numbers is going to be the mean of 2 numbers in the middle so this median=(x-2)/2 and the mean is going to be (-6+X)/8 so by taking the possible values of X at the extremes (-2 and -5) we can compare the two quantities.

Possible values of X=-2
Median= -2
Mean= -1
Possible values of X=-5
Median= -7/2 =-3.5
Mean= -11/8 =-1.375
Since in both cases the Mean is greater than the median correct choice is A

Your solution is great. however, a minor error--the mean would actually be (-8+X)/8
