Blank (i) - keywords to focus: "more difficult scenario" -> if it had been appealing, unequivocal (unambiguous, easily understood), it wouldnt have been a difficult scenario. Hence, "complex" is correct
Blank (ii) - keyword to focus: "yet" - we are going to see some kind of contrast. We are now focusing the manner of study. Study has been from just pairs of animals under "somekind" of setting. From the context, we understand somehow both these are not favorable points/right form of studying.
Thus this "somekind" should be parochial in context.
Lets go with options:
artificial - this can have an unfavorable connotation, as studies done under artificial cannot be juxtaposed one under natural settings (could be a right answer)
tranquil - means calm, without disturbance. This is a favorable condition for the study. Hence not what we need
acquiescent - meaning accepting without protest. This has a unfavorable connotation, but is out of scope. We are are not discussing about how the study was accepted
Blank (iii)
From the context, ____ -> could mean "could not have been derived from"
It cannot be extrapolated, nor can it be a corollary (a practical consequence that happens naturally), leaving us with the option "cannot be inferred"
