It is a good idea to simplify the first part of the sentence: creativity rarely happens in a _____ environment. Even a little bit of struggle is needed. Therefore, words that fit in the blank are happy/friendly, lacking struggle. (B) genial, which means friendly, works perfectly

Hope this helps.

The answer [B] is incorrect. Please do not rationalize "Genial" as "lacking struggle". Society can be happy/friendly and yet hardworking. According to M-W,
Genial
1. Marked by the friendliness
2. Favorable to growth and comfort.
So the answer is NOT Genial. The correct answer is [C] "Stagnant". According to M-W, one of the definitions on Stagnant is "Not advancing or developing".

Kind note to the Admin: Just because an answer is posted on multiple websites does not qualify its correctness.

The correct answer is B. The only problem was the source which was not from PP but from magoosh

WE do not need necessarily a genial ground I.E the good ideas can thrive NOT only in high cultural ambient or academia or else BUT also in a humble home or in society at large.

Not only in a laboratory but a good idea can spur on the street, on a bus stop ...etc

C does not make any sense. Does An idea might come up in a stagnant (not prolific) environment ??

I do not think so.........whatsoever

Hope this helps

The answer is ''Genial". Here the question has mentioned that the creativity always might not need the calm and friendly environment,,, even a small argument of violence may result in some spark of idea, that might be either useful in different subject. In case of stagnant i don't think so, will better fit in the blank. stagnant has nothing to do with strife or violence.we there need opposite of strife.so GENIAL is best fit.
