I think E is still the correct answer. The sentence states that the artist was "praised almost exclusively for her debut album," which means there have been additional albums that have not been praised. Thus, the blank (because of "yet again") needs to mean something not worthy of praise, and 'mediocre' is the only possible answer.

Another way to approach this is that, aside from 'mediocre,' the other responses would be positive when referring to a piece of art, or an album. So, the answer is E.

IMHO, it should be C because "yet again" give us signals that the blank will be in similar direction with "praised almost exclusively," and flawless means perfect.

It makes sense to choose E because it's usually hard for an artist to produce magnificent artwork after succeeding in the previous artwork. however, the clue in this sentence made me choose C.

usually, 99% of the time there a debatable OA, then the question itself is poorly worded.

(A) ambitious
(B) poignant
(C) flawless
(D) penetrating
(E) mediocre

The answer seems to be E but I am not sure how.

The portion in blue is intended to imply that ONLY the debut album received praise and that every subsequent album by the artist has NOT received praise.
Given that subsequent albums by the artist have failed to live up to the promise of the debut, what would come as little surprise?
That the artist should yet again create a work that is mediocre.

The blue portion seems insufficient to convey the intended meaning.
An official TC would make the intention clearer.

Yes, it should be E. One clue, also, is that it is the only one that is negative in meaning, while the others are positive.

I think the sentence is slightly sarcastic, kine of like a sentence you would find in a review.

She was only praised for her first work, and nothing after that. So the yet again means that she's again producing something that's not that great, i.e., mediocre.

That's how I saw the question.

That an artist praised almost exclusively for her debut album should yet again create a work that is (i) ______ comes as little surprise.

The artist was praised almost exclusively for her debut album. If she creates another praisable album as expected because of his debut it won't be surprising, it will be as expected.
It will be surprising if something doesn't go as expected. So the artist's mediocre work after a great debut comes as little surprise.

Hi Caracass,

My Thought process on this Question.

That an artist praised almost exclusively for her debut album should yet again create a work that is (i) ______ comes as little surprise.

Meaning, Artists (Ex:Gotye) Debut Album was amazing. And he got praise only for that. Yet, After so many duds. Defying all expectations. Surprisingly he created another dud (Mediocre).

Am i wrong in my assumptions?

Thanks.

Yes sir. You are correct.

I did wrong above mainly because when someone posts here sometimes post with typos or change the OA. The tag was wrong which is NOT an official question as tagged before...

Yes your reasoning is correct ;)

Terms 'should' and 'yet' make difference here. As far as I understand; an artist who is being praised for her first album cannot be expected for mediocre creation if she/he goes to create a new album. This expectation is not to surprise.
