Blank (i): The Positive Assertion Clue
The first part of the sentence introduces a specific claim (an "assertion"). This assertion presents a counter-intuitive, positive outcome: that people with more background radiation are somehow "better off" in relation to harm.
- A. susceptible to: This is the perfect fit. The assertion is that these people are "less susceptible to harm." This phrase means they are more resistant or less likely to be affected by it, creating the required positive-sounding claim.
- B. protected from: This creates a double negative ("less protected from harm"), which means they are more likely to be affected. This would create a negative-sounding claim ("more is worse"), which contradicts the subsequent logic.
- C. concerned with: This is too subjective. A health-based claim is about objective risk (susceptibility), not an individual's personal level of worry.

Blank (ii): The "Salubrious" Assumption Clue
The sentence now provides the reason for the assertion we just solved for. The claim that higher radiation leads to less harm is based on what kind of assumption? It needs to be a beneficial one.

Blank (iii): The "However" Trigger
The critical word "However" signals a pivot. It challenges the entire preceding logic. What follows should be the opposite of the assertion and assumption made in the first two blanks. The blank is part of the "notion" being challenged.
- Logic: The previous parts claimed "more is better/harmless." The phrase challenged after "However" must represent this unsupported claim. The sentence contrasts this unsupported notion with the final, definitive fact after "in fact": more radiation brings a corresponding increase in cell damage (harm). The fact is "more = more harm." Therefore, the challenged notion must be "more = good/harmless."
- G. act as a tonic: A "tonic" is a health-restoring substance. Challenging the notion that low levels of radiation "act as a tonic" (are good for you) perfectly transitions to the final fact that they cause cell damage (harm). It targets and dismantles the specific beneficial claim made in the first half.
- H. threaten health: Challenging the notion that low levels "threaten health" would be illogical. The final fact confirms they do cause cell damage, so they do threaten health. This is an antonym trap.
- I. can be discounted: While it makes grammatical sense, "tonic" directly challenges the specific beneficial claim that blank (i) and (ii) set up. Challenging the best-case scenario (it's good for you) makes the transition to the reality (it causes damage) far more potent.
- Winner: G. act as a tonic

The Logic
The sentence creates a perfect circle of logic:
1. The False Idea: An counter-intuitive positive claim (more is better) is presented: more radiation makes people less susceptible to harm (A).
2. The False Basis: This claim is explained by a beneficial assumption of a salubrious (E) effect.
3. The True Challenge: However, there are no reliable studies to support this notion that low levels are good for you (G. act as a tonic).
4. The Hard Fact: The truth is the direct opposite: every additional increase increases cell damage (harm).

The assertion that people who receive slightly higher doses of background radiation than the national average are less (i)__________harm than those who do not is based on the assumption that this background radiation has (ii)__________effect. However, no reliable studies have been conducted to support the notion that these low levels of background radiation (iii)__________; in fact, most studies have indicated that every additional increase in dosage brings a corresponding increase in the chances of cell damage.

In the case of such large passages, that we are likely to encounter when dealing with triple blank TCs, the proper method is to first read the whole passage and understand its general meaning. Then attack the blank that has plenty of clues available. Don't constrain yourself by thinking that the blanks should be filled in order from the first to the last.

So, in this case, I am going to begin from the last line of the passage. it begins with "In fact" and establishes a truth, namely that "every additional increase in dosage brings a corresponding increase in the chances of cell damage." The "In fact" also implies that the previous statement asserted to the contrary. The word "every" also emphasizes this indirectly. Thus the best way to complete the previous clause would be to ensure that the word for the blank means "are beneficial". That is the radiation at low levels is beneficial. The correct word from the choice list is act as a tonic.

Now this second sentence containing two contradictory ideas, separated by a semi-colon, itself begins with the word "However". This implies that it contradicts the idea in the previous sentence (the first sentence). Since the second sentence concludes that radiation is harmful, the first sentence should assert that people benefit from radiation. This assertion is possible only if we choose susceptible to for the first blank and a salubrious for the second blank.

The choices are susceptible to, a salubrious and act as a tonic.
