Let the cost of the air-conditioner be \($a\)
Since the cost of an air conditioner is b dollars more than 3 times the cost of a radio we have:
3 times the cost of a radio is b dollars less than the cost of the air-conditioner
=> Cost of the radio = 1/3 rd of $(a - b) = \($(a-b)/3\)
Thus, total cost of the radio and air-conditioner = \($[a + (a-b)/3] = $(4a-b)/3\)
\(=> (4a-b)/3 = v\)
\(=> 4a-b = 3v\)
\(=> a = (3v + b)/4\)
Answer E
Note: Some of the answer options have the variable \(y\). It should be \(v\) instead
