A quadratic function intersects the x-axis when f(x) = 0, aka the roots. We can interpret that as f(x) = 0 when x = 2 or 8, so:
\(f(x) = 0 = (x-2)(x-8)\)
\(= x^2 - 10x +16\)
Now we see that a = -10 and b = 16.
\(a+b = -10+16 = 6\)
Since 6>5, Quantity A is greater.
\(f(x) = 0 = (x-2)(x-8)\)
\(= x^2 - 10x +16\)
Now we see that a = -10 and b = 16.
\(a+b = -10+16 = 6\)
Since 6>5, Quantity A is greater.
