The words directly proportional tell us we can solve the question using equivalent ratios
We'll use the ratio: height/weight SQUARED
In other words: height/weight²
GIVEN: Height = 2 when weight = x
We want the height when the weight = x/2
So, let's let H = when the weight = x/2
We get: 2/x² = H/(x/2)²
Cross multiply to get: (2)(x/2)² = (H)(x²)
Simplify: x²/2 = Hx²
Divide both sides by x² to get: 1/2 = H
We get:
QUANTITY A: 1/2
QUANTITY B: 1
Answer: B
