Organize the information given in a population chart. Notice that because the population is increasing exponentially, it does not take very long for the population to top 1,000,000.
The population actually will double every year
Now=2,000
1 year = 4,000
2 years = 8,000
....................
9 years = 1,024,000
The answer is 9 years

2 ^ 1 = 2
2 ^ 10 = 1024
