The table shows the linear relationship between the stride rate of a runner, in numbers of strides per second, and the speed index. This linear relationship holds for stride rates per second to 5.00 strides per second. For every 0.25 strides/sec there is an increment of 1 speed index. Based on this, 3.75 strides/sec will be equal to speed index of 8.
To find out the remaining speed index of 0.05 strides/sec I used ratios: 0.25/1 : 0.05/x --> x = 0.2.
Therefore, 8+0.2 = 8.2.

set speed index as dependent on stride rate: \(speed=m*stride+b\)
\(m=\frac{5-4}{3-2.75}=4\)
\(speed=4*stride+b\), plug in \((3,5)\)
\(5=4*3+b\), \(b=-7\)
when \(stride=3.8\), \(speed=4*3.8-7=8.2\) is the answer
