There are 37 adults participating in a dance class, with an odd number of men and an even number of women. If male and female dance partners are paired up, there will be 3 women left out. How many men are in the class?

Since there are 3 women left out, there will be 37 – 3 = 34 people dancing in pairs. Half of those dancing are men; hence there are 17 men in the class. This is partially verified by the fact that 17 is an odd number.
