Taking X as 50 denomination and Y as 100 denomination
We know total value will be 50X + 100Y
Value of Lost checks = 5000 - (50X+100Y) --- Eq 1
Taking X+Y=14, there will be two cases : X=Y+2 and X=Y-2
For 1st case we get X=8 and Y=6 and for 2nd case we get X=6 and Y=8

Putting these 2 cases in Eq1
We get
5000 - (1100) = 3900
or 5000 - (1000) = 4000
max value = 4000
