We can start by pairing the words;
Conceit & haughtiness- excessive pride in oneself
meekness & timorousness- Timid
Humility and avarice are unrelated.
Moving to the question.
Modesty, while usually befitting, is not immune to excess; a surfeit of self-effacement can well be considered___________.
Here we can use the semi colon (;) as a clue and the first half and the second half should be similar in meaning.
Also, modesty and self-effacement are similar in meaning. Thus, there are no clue for the word timid and conceit and haughtiness fits the bill as it means excessive pride and the first half indicated that it is not immune to excess.
Hope this helps!
