The median of three positive integers a, b and c is equal to the median of 4 positive integers w, x, y and z.
Quantity A
Quantity B
a+b+c
x+y+z
A. Quantity A is greater B. Quantity B is greater C. The two quantities are equal D. The relationship cannot be determined from the information given
Since it SEEMS like we don't have enough information to determine which quantity is greater, I'm going to test some values...
case i: {a,b,c} = {1,1,1} and {w,x,y,z} = {1,1,1,1} (notice that the medians of the two sets are equal). We get: Quantity A: a+b+c = 1+1+1 = 3 Quantity B: x+y+z = 1+1+1 = 3 In this case, the two quantities are equal
case ii: {a,b,c} = {1,1,1} and {w,x,y,z} = {0,1,1,2} (notice that the medians of the two sets are equal). We get: Quantity A: a+b+c = 1+1+1 = 3 Quantity B: x+y+z = 1+1+2 = 4 In this case, Quantity B is greater
