Hi Carcass,

I think the answer will be B

it is given that a and b are both negative. Hence, Quantity A HAS TO BE NEGATIVE.

Quantity B will first square the negative values, then take the square root, hence Quantity B HAS TO BE POSITIVE.

Could you please confirm my reasoning? If I'm wrong, could you please tell us which values for a and b will be C?

It is an ambiguous question

The answer could be C but also B

If we take QB and eliminate the root with the power of two (we can ) we do have a+b and the two quantities are equal

However, if we use two negative values the result is positive and the square root of a positive is still positive but QA with the two negative values is negative and B > A

I would say B is more likely as OA, but ,again, is ambiguous

I think it’s D. You can’t just cancel out the square and square root.

The answer is B. The reason being that after the root is done, it could be either negative or positive.
