Two identical pies were cut into a total of 16 equal pieces. If one of the resulting pieces was then split equally among three people, what fraction of a pie did each person receive?
A. \(\frac{1}{48}\)
B. \(\frac{1}{24}\)
C. \(\frac{1}{16}\)
D. \(\frac{3}{16}\)
E. \(\frac{3}{8}\)
Here,
Two pies are split into \(16\) equal parts, meaning each individual pie is split into 8 equal parts
and each person receives \(\frac{1}{8}\) of the each individual pie
Again, one of the resulting piece was divided equally among 3 people i.e. each of these 3 people receives = \(\frac{1}{8} * \frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{24}\)
