Topic –Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and to disobey and resist unjust laws.
I agree with the above mentioned sentence. Society can function properly if it is based on rights and responsibilty for the people in it. Laws in the society not only protect a person’s rights but also embrace him with a great responsibility to abide by it at all times. The same laws also gives us the right to protest if we are not satisfied by its nature in terms of justice.
People in a democratic country choose their representatives which in turn have a key role in constituting different laws. These laws come into existence only after a very streneous process and are required to be followed by people. The origin of this whole system of laws in society is cited from a time where the wise people of the society used to come together and with a consensus form some mandatory code of coducts to be followed by all the people so that there is peace and harmony in the society.People in the society have both rights and resposibility towards these laws. These laws play an important role in ensuring that there is no injustice to a particular person or group of people who are at weaker positions in the society.Every person has to inbibe in himself these rules of conduct so that in no way he becomes the cause of someone else’s discomfort.
There have been times when the same laws which were meant to be used for the people instead were used against them.People have eventually protested against the unjustified laws made by some influential people for their personal benefits. Various traditional laws regarding women , caste and colour were in practise in a time when democracy was either very weak or didnt exist at all.Mass protests and uproar in the society bearing injustice had led to a phenomenon change in laws in various parts of the world. There are still some parts of world which blindly follow discriminative laws of gender etc. and in my view the people of that society should stand for their basic rights .
There could be some exceptional cases in which a ceratin individual might feel the law is not appropriate for him to follow or would simply deny to follow it. That would be a completely different scenario since the society works with consensus and it would be very difficult to make law to suit individual desires .In this case people would have to adjust and make a change in their thinking so that there is peace in the society.Definitely there are various procedures in a democracy to raise voice against unjust laws and they should be followed if someone actually believes that the existing law is unjust to him or a particular group of people. We should always remember that it is one of only who is constituting the law on our behalf so we have equal responsibility to abide by it and it is our duty to challenge it if we feel it is unjust.
