The island is a colony but it does not receive any order from the mother country. So what kind of colony it should be? It is independent and autonomous colony.

Agree with the options B & D.
Could you help me understand why "disinterested" is not the right option ?
As I the understand the country should be neutral and unbiased (disinterested)

One portion of the island is controlled by the fatherland ...the other does not.

Which means that the portion is NOt controlled is autonomous or independent.

Disinterested is completely out of scope.

Hope now is more clear.

"receives no orders from the mother country" --> The word autonomous comes to mind
Luckily Autonomous is present and paired with independent

Hence BD is the Answer.
