Actually the meaning of the sentence is that the candidate was cooperative or with the willingness to cooperate.

That said he demonstrated less divisive and less. Combative in the sense he did not want fight or being in a position of wall against the wall.

Therefore Combative and divisive are good options.

Notice how the two words must fit the meaning not necessarily must be the same or synonymous
