"We recommend that Monarch Books open a café in its store. Monarch, having been in business at the same location for more than twenty years, has a large customer base because it is known for its wide selection of books on all subjects. Clearly, opening the café would attract more customers. Space could be made for the café by discontinuing the children's book section, which will probably become less popular given that the most recent national census indicated a significant decline in the percentage of the population under age ten. Opening a café will allow Monarch to attract more customers and better compete with Regal Books, which recently opened its own café."
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.
Essay:
The argument claims that the Monarch Books open a cafe in its store as he has business in same location with large number of customer base. This argument concludes that opening cafe would attract more customers. The space for cafe could be managed by discontinuing the children’s book section. This conclusion is based on the premises the recent national census indicated that a significant decline in percentage of the population under age ten. Opening a cafe in order to attract more customer by discontinuing the children’s book section is illogical. The argument is doubtful and no evidence is provided to increase the customer.
Firstly, replacing the children’s book section with cafe is tantamount preclude customer from entering the book shop.
Secondly, the author claims that a significant decline in percentage of the population under age ten which leads to the conclusion of opening a cafe to attract more customer. But no statistical data have given to strengthen the conclusion. If the argument demonstrated that, 50% decline in a percentage of population under age ten then the argument would be much more stronger. But no information provided to bolster to decision for opening a cafe. It could be a possibility that one decline in a percentage of population of age ten leads to the decision of discontinuing the children section and opening a cafe.
In addition to this, It fails to ignore the possibility that location of the book store. It could be possibility that a book store is nearby school location. Nothing is mentioned related to the location of book store.
The author is trying to counteract that opening a cafe in Monarch store will help to succeed.
In sum, It is conclude that discontinuing children section is illogical to attract more customer. Without much evidence, it isn’t much reason to believe on the conclusion given.
